Sewing is an amazing journey that feeds your aesthetic needs and earns you money. It is not difficult. If you do your basics right, you are just on the verge of exploring the world of garment construction and apparel design. At Usha Silai School, we teach our students with all care and diligence. It would be best if you went through with a proper sequence of learnings to strengthen your basic foundation and understanding. Cutting and tailoring are basic foundations of modern fashion design and apparel design courses. Even if you enrol on our Fashion Designing course, tailoring classes will be an indispensable part of your curriculum.

What do You Learn at USHA Silai School?

The sky is the limit in the world of sewing. It starts with a basic course called Sewing and Designing. Anyone who does not even know how to thread a needle or tie a knot can join this tailoring course. This course is also useful for experienced tailors because it has advanced men’s and women’s dresses like Nehru Kurta to Bengali Kurta and Pipin Blouse to Collar Blouse. The learning starts with a pillow cover, cushion cover, Umbrella frock, brief, six-panel petticoat, etc. Once you have become a bit more confident, you will start making advanced women’s dresses like Nighty, Kameez, Salwar with belts, Plain Blouse, Churidar Kameez, Churidar With Belts, House coats, Collar Blouse etc. As you progress to the end of the course, you will learn more designer patterns and become a confident tailor. You will get a certificate from Usha Silai School at the end of the course. The next course offered to you is a Hobby course in Indian garment design. This course is an intermediate-level course. It is based on Women’s wear. Here, we start with A-line cut frock, Penny Frock, and Petticoat, and then we move on to designer items with a simple plain blouse. Slowly, you will master the Princess cut blouse, Yoke blouse, High neck blouse, Raglan blouse, Choli cut blouse, Bra Cut blouse, and Piping blouse. We will then turn your focus to Kurti Cutting and Stitching. You will learn Plain kameez, Princess line kameez, A- Line kameez, Angrakha kameez, Multi panel kameez, Anarkali kameez, Kalidar kameez. You also learn plain salwar, churidar, Patiala salwar, and love pants. At the end of the course, you will get the certificate.

Advanced Courses

You can view the curriculum of the Dress Designing course. The curriculum contains designer blouses, designer kameez, designer gowns, and bottoms. Many of you want to learn blouses only. So we have created a new course considering different types of designer blouses. You can go through the course curriculum. Kurti Cutting and Stitching is another new course that is based on Kurtis and Kameez only. You can view our Kurti design curriculum in detail. Do you want to learn how to make an a-line Kurti? Or do you want to be a master of long Kurti Cutting and Stitching? Do you want to fill your boutique with kurti designs like Anarkali kurti, Angrakha kurti, a-line kurti, etc? Then, join our advanced Kurti Cutting and Stitching course. Designer nighties for women are the most commonly preferred comfortable dress at home. So, our next advanced-level tailoring course is the specialization course on Nighty cutting and stitching. This is an advanced-level tailoring course that covers a variety of nighty designs. After this, we have a textile designing course where you can learn fabric printing, block printing on fabric, screen printing, t-shirt screen printing, etc. We also have a Creative Arts and Crafts course and a Fashion Designing Course. USHA Silai School offers both of these courses.

Mode of Learning:

Usha Silai School has always been a classroom training provider. But during the COVID lockdown, the Disha Fashion Institute, one of the leading Usha Silai Schools, started online stitching classes. This has been proven to be a success. Even after reducing COVID restrictions, Online tailoring classes have become more popular than classroom training.

Success Stories of Usha Silai School

Reported by NDTV USHA Silai School is working towards a sustainable future in partnership with non-governmental organizations like Looms of Ladakh Cooperative, UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund) and The Corbett Foundation. Looms of Ladakh Women Cooperative, a farm-to-fashion collective that works towards training unemployed women artisans from Ladakh to make knitted and woven woolen products from the region’s rich heritage of wool in all its renditions: pashmina, yak, sheep and camel. Looms of Ladakh collaborated with Usha Silai School to help women learn to stitch and make finished products from raw materials. In another partnership between USHA and UNFPA, the program will prepare 100 master trainers who will, in turn, train 3,000 women across India in life skills over three years, hoping to be the genesis of a small social change. With the addition of life skills training, the Classical Silai School training module will be 9 days of training. The Corbett Foundation and USHA Silai school are on a mission to provide women of forest areas in Thane an alternate livelihood source and reduce their dependence on forests.
